Pool Acid Wash Services

Most pools in Miami benefit from acid washing every 3-5 years. Pools with persistent staining, heavy calcium buildup, or algae-stained plaster may need it sooner. We assess your pool's condition and recommend the right timing.

Cost depends mainly on pool size and how much staining or scale needs to be removed—a standard residential pool with light staining costs less than a large pool with heavy calcium buildup or black algae staining that needs extra passes. Because it involves draining the pool, hazardous-chemical handling, and a full refill and rebalance, acid washing is priced closer to our specialty services than routine maintenance. We'll inspect the surface and give you a firm quote before scheduling.

We don't recommend it. Muriatic acid strong enough to strip stains can cause serious chemical burns and toxic fumes without the right dilution, ventilation, and protective equipment, and getting the concentration or contact time wrong can etch the surface so badly it needs resurfacing. There's also the drain-down itself to manage safely—South Florida's high water table can crack or "pop" an empty pool shell if it isn't handled correctly. This is one of the few pool tasks we'd call a professionals-only job.

When done by professionals, acid washing removes a very thin layer of plaster (about 1/16 inch) to reveal fresh, clean surface underneath. A typical plaster pool can handle 3-4 acid washes over its lifetime before needing resurfacing.

A standard residential pool takes 1-2 days: one day for draining and the acid wash itself, and a second day for neutralization, refilling, and chemical balancing. Larger commercial pools may take 2-3 days.
